FLL domestic passenger traffic rises 3% in September
Domestic growth helped keep the airport close to its nine-month 2025 pace, while international traffic remained lower.
Key Takeaways
- •FLL handled 1,953,039 arriving and departing passengers during September.
- •International passenger movements fell 20.5% from September last year.
- •Domestic traffic through September was 1.9% above the comparable nine-month period.
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport handled 1,953,039 arriving and departing passengers in September, down 1.6% from a year earlier, as growth in domestic traffic cushioned lower international volumes.
Domestic passenger movements reached 1,644,916, up from 1,597,508 in September last year, according to the Broward County Aviation Department's latest monthly report. That represents a 3% increase.
International traffic moved in the other direction. It fell to 308,123 passenger movements from 387,407, a decline of 20.5%.
For businesses serving the airport, the split is more useful than treating the month as a uniform slowdown. Domestic traffic grew even as the international side remained below last year's level. The figures measure airport activity, rather than visitor spending or hotel bookings.
The nine-month picture was closer to last year's pace. FLL recorded 23,710,203 passenger movements through September, leaving total traffic 0.8% below the comparable period.
Domestic traffic for those nine months reached 19,606,799 movements, up 1.9%. International traffic totaled 4,103,404 movements, down 11.9%.
Those totals cover arriving and departing passengers, so they should not be read as a count of individual visitors to Broward. A trip can generate both an arrival and a departure in the airport's activity records.
September is the newest monthly report linked on the airport's statistics page. Its year-to-date domestic passenger count stands above the corresponding nine-month total in 2025.
