Ocean Aviation broke ground October 7 on a private aviation campus at Miami Executive Airport in South Miami-Dade. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department's October 8 announcement describes a $67 million capital commitment and plans for up to 400,000 square feet of aircraft hangars.
The planned campus combines communal and private hangars with a terminal and fuel facilities for aircraft owners, operators and corporate flight departments. The groundbreaking begins construction on facilities that are expected to open in 2027, Aviation Week reported October 9.
Ocean Aviation, backed by Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, was established in 2024 with a 40-year ground lease covering 40 acres at the airport, according to the department. Lemartec will lead design and construction, with Schenkel Shultz as design partner.
The project also includes a common-use taxi lane and ramp serving US Customs and Border Protection. Those planned facilities would support aircraft movements and international general aviation operations, the department says.
A new home for the Wings Over Miami Air Museum is another part of the development. The museum's relocation within Miami Executive Airport would preserve its role in displaying historic aircraft and supporting aviation education as the campus takes shape.
Ocean Aviation has also expanded in Broward County. The department says the company acquired National Jets at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in September. That operation will retain its established name, giving Ocean Aviation a presence at both airports.
For South Miami-Dade, the project adds future aircraft storage and service capacity on airport land. The next major milestone is putting the new campus into service; the reported 2027 opening remains a target.
