The waterfront estate of legendary Broadway producer Harold Prince has changed hands for $31.5 million, marking another high-dollar transaction on Miami Beach's prestigious North Bay Road.
Daisy Chaplin, the actor and director daughter of the late theatrical icon, sold the property at 6000 North Bay Road after previously acquiring her brother Charles Prince's ownership stake for $10 million in 2021. Douglas Elliman's Dina Goldentayer represented the buyer in the transaction.
The two-story mansion spans 9,000 square feet across an 0.8-acre waterfront lot, featuring eight bedrooms and eight and a half bathrooms. Built in 1937 and expanded over subsequent decades, the property boasts 150 feet of bay frontage and will likely undergo redevelopment under its new ownership.
Harold Prince, known professionally as Hal Prince, purchased the North Bay Road residence in 1987 for $1.7 million. The theatrical giant earned recognition as one of America's most celebrated theater figures, producing and directing iconic Broadway productions including West Side Story, Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, Sweeney Todd, and Phantom of the Opera. His career achievements included winning 21 Tony Awards.
Following Prince's death in 2019, the property was transferred to a trust bearing his name in 2000, then deeded to his children in 2015. The siblings subsequently engaged in a legal dispute over the valuable real estate before Chaplin resolved the matter by purchasing her brother's interest.
The Prince estate sale contributes to a series of substantial real estate transactions on the exclusive waterfront corridor. Developer David Edelstein acquired the nearby property at 6380 North Bay Road for $25.5 million in May, securing a 0.6-acre waterfront parcel.
French banker Olivier Sarkozy, half-brother of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and ex-husband of Mary-Kate Olsen, recently purchased a non-waterfront home on the same street for $5.2 million. Additionally, spec home developer Todd Michael Glaser and the Posner Group removed their 2.3-acre waterfront estate at 5940 North Bay Road from the market after seeking $169 million.
North Bay Road has attracted numerous celebrity residents, including David and Victoria Beckham, Bee Gees member Barry Gibb, Cindy Crawford, director Michael Bay, and singer Shakira. Local residents have initiated efforts to gate portions of the street to enhance privacy and security measures for the high-profile community.
