Baseball Star Scherzer Offloads Jupiter Mansion for $23M
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer has sold his unfinished Admirals Cove estate for $23 million to Michigan business executive Thomas Abrams. The property was originally listed at $36 million earlier this year.
Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife Erica have completed the sale of their under-construction Jupiter mansion for $23 million, marking a significant discount from their original $36 million asking price set in February.
The buyers, Thomas and Kimberly Abrams of Northville, Michigan, acquired the property at 217 Commodore Drive in the exclusive Admirals Cove community. Thomas Abrams serves as head of Reliable Carriers, a Canton, Michigan-based specialty vehicle transportation company that handles luxury car deliveries, relocations, automotive events, and film productions.
Scherzer, known by fans as Mad Max, originally purchased the 0.7-acre waterfront lot for $14.9 million in 2023. The planned residence will encompass nearly 10,000 square feet upon completion and features 300 feet of direct waterfront access. Including construction costs, the total project value reaches $35 million according to listing details.
The sale represents the second major real estate transaction for the Scherzer family in Admirals Cove. They maintain their primary residence directly across the street, a waterfront mansion purchased in 2020 for $9.8 million. The decision to sell the newer property came after the couple explored Discovery Land Company's upcoming Atlantic Fields development in nearby Hobe Sound.
For the Abrams family, this purchase adds to their existing Jupiter real estate portfolio. Property records show they previously acquired a non-waterfront home at 115 Victory Drive within the same Admirals Cove community for $3.9 million in 2021.
The transaction was facilitated by Holly Meyer Lucas, Kimberly Thomson, and Courtney Payne representing Compass on the seller's side, while Rob Thomson of Waterfront Properties and Club Communities brought the buyers to the deal.
Scherzer's baseball career includes two World Series championships and a league debut in 2008. The veteran pitcher has played for several major franchises including the Detroit Tigers and Washington Nationals before joining Toronto, where he helped propel the Blue Jays to the World Series last season.
Admirals Cove continues to attract high-profile buyers seeking luxury waterfront properties in Jupiter's gated community environment. The neighborhood achieved a record-breaking sale in 2024 when seed industry magnate Ronald and Arlene Holden sold their 1.1-acre waterfront estate to hedge fund executive David Goel for $34 million, establishing new benchmarks for premium residential transactions in the area.
